[comp.os.vms] checksums of show.exe and loginout.exe

       Checksums of SHOW.EXE and LOGINOUT.EXE
       --------------------------------------

       Immediately after I received the security-important-message I
started collecting checksums of loginout.exe and show.exe.

The 9 systems from which I received the numbers have all the
same checksum 647406105 for show.exe but they ALL have
       different checksums for loginout.exe!

The 9 systems are different VAXmodels; some run VMS4.5 and some
       VMS4.4.

It seems to me that somehow LOGINOUT.EXE contains some
       site-specific material?

Or are all these systems 'treated' by hackers?

My systems also have 647406105 for show.exe (I am comforted
as this is not the one posted).

Loginout.exe is affected, among other things, by the type of
licence you have. When you apply your key for a particular
number of users, you are patching loginout.exe. I would assume
that it also changes with new versions since, for major upgrades
at least, our key has to be re-applied. Big VAXes generally
have the same 64-user licence which comes standard. MicroVAXes,
however, can have 2, 4, 8, 16, or unlimited, each of which is
a different patch. So that might account for some of the
differences.
