[comp.os.vms] Flakiness in DIRECTORY/PRINT command of VMS

sherman%v70nl.DECnet@NUSC.ARPA ("V70NL::SHERMAN") (08/21/87)

I've been bothered by one feature of the VMS DIRECTORY command. If you are in,
say, SYS$MANAGER, and care to use the

	$ DIRECTORY/PRINT

command, you (under most circumstances) will find you have insufficient privs.
It's a shame they write the temporary file to your current directory, rather
than to either SYS$LOGIN, or better yet, SYS$SCRATCH.

On most of the systems I work on, there are few directories a user can be in,
and take advantage of the /PRINT qualifier, because of the handling of this.

Bill.
