I've been bothered by one feature of the VMS DIRECTORY command. If you are in, say, SYS$MANAGER, and care to use the $ DIRECTORY/PRINT command, you (under most circumstances) will find you have insufficient privs. It's a shame they write the temporary file to your current directory, rather than to either SYS$LOGIN, or better yet, SYS$SCRATCH. On most of the systems I work on, there are few directories a user can be in, and take advantage of the /PRINT qualifier, because of the handling of this.
