Perhaps what you heard about is DECnetDOS, which runs on a PC and makes it a DECnet node? > anybody know about this? Failing that, is there any knowledge about > sending mail to an IBM3033 (other than using coloured book software) There is a product called JNET (from Joiner Associates) which lets a VAX act as a BITNET node (don't forget to register/pay fees/etc. with the folks who run BITNET). > (anybody know why CBS isn't available in the states?) No. Nobody knows why CBS isn't available in the states, for the simple reason that it IS. If your DEC sales rep says it isn't, ask to talk to his supervisor, and don't give up until you've found someone who admits that it is.

(I missed the original INFO-VAX posting: the link to Bitnet seems to be having problems, but...) There is at least one company that sells DECnet for IBM mainframes. Of course, it's quite expensive. Interlink Computer Sciences, Inc. 47370 Fremont Boulevard Fremont, CA 94538 (415) 657-9800 Telex: 880139 ICS FRMT UD sells their interface and IBM software for about US$150,000 (depending on options). They use a PDP-11 running RSX and standard DECnet connected to an IBM channel, so it works for any kind of network link that RSX DECnet supports: ethernet, synchronous or asynchronous. Their interface is available for either VM or MVS. In fact, Carl should know the name of a site that uses one. (Hint: CITHEX has an X.25 link to them.) I hope this helps. Selden E.
