Hi Gang, I have noticed a trend that seems to be picking up in recent times. There are a great many messages of this form: Can somebody please tell me where I can get a copy of 'make' for VMS? To some of you, that might seem like a most reasonable request...if you know what "make" is. I see a lot of such requests naming programs which I have never heard of. Now, you might say, "well then, it's none of your business." You would be correct, except that I am on this net to learn about as much as possible. Please, everybody, when you ask for information about a program, or for a source of it, give a brief, even terse, description of what it is. I, (and I assume many others), might want such a porgram if we knew it existed. Thanks much for listening to me Dan Graham Vini Vidi Hacki ==> Insert standard disclaimer here <== ------

Just to add to what Dan Graham <GRAHAM@DRCVAX.ARPA> said: Not only does describing the program in brief help those who don't know what it is and might want it. It also helps the requestor in that some of us may know of the same product (or one close enough for government work ;-) ) which goes by a completely different name. (Please, no flames about keeping the original name on a program... I know how things should be, and I know how things often are in spite of that.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Cole <Flatline> BITNET: KJCOLE@GALLUA.BITNET Center for Assessment and or Demographic Studies (CADS) CADS_COLE@GALLUA.BITNET Gallaudet Research Institute (GRI) UUCP: ...!psuvax!gallua.bitnet!kjcole Gallaudet University CompuServe: 76167,1406 Washington, D.C. 20002 (202) 651-5575 "Hey, Rocky!
