Does there exist a public domain source of ftp, running under native Vax C
which is extended so it
knows how to write files directly to magtape as well as to disk.
If so, it would be nice to know how to obtain such source. Any information
would be appreciated. Thanks.

On our system (BSD 4.3), if the first character of the local file name is "|" then the rest of the name is treated like a command to pipe the file into. So you could "get foo |dd of=/dev/rmt8 obs=1024" or something else you can dream up. If you're using VMS, oh well... Ken
