[net.dcom] Vadic dial-out modems

pleasant@topaz.ARPA (Mel Pleasant) (01/10/85)

We're having problems getting our dialout modems to work properly.
We have an VA811A automatic calling unit strapped for the MACS configuration,
the VA831A adapter, four VA3481 modems, and a VA1680 chassis again strapped
for the MACS configuration. All switches are in the default cookbook
position and we've even talked to Vadic at least four times already. Oh
yeah, we are trying to get these to work on our Pyramid-90x running 4.2 BSD.

At the moment, we can't even get the modems to dial-out properly
when we feed them instructions from a terminal. Right now the hardware
properly selects the correct modem. It fails when it "tries" to actually
complete the dialing phase. The VA831, after timing out, does send back the
"B" for aborting code.

If anyone has any ideas as to what we should do or try next, please
get back to me. I'm hoping that someone out there will tell me that Vadic
doesn't know what they are talking about and we should put switch X in
position Y or restrap something...
