I know this question (and others like it) have been posted here a thousand times -- but here it is again: We are currently looking to purchase a fairly substantial number of RA82s (or something like them). Whatever we get will become our "standard" for the next 2-3 years, and will likely replace many of the RA81s we have now. Current contenders: DEC: SA482 System Industries: SI83C Emulex: SM824 Emulex also announced (this week) their SM208-12, which houses twelve (!) 655MB (formatted) drives in a single cabinet; this one, too, is under serious consideration. I'd like to hear from anyone with experience with the above-listed disks; I'd also like to hear from people with comments about SI and Emulex in general. Please reply directly to me: I don't read the list often enough. If there is enough general interest, I'll be glad to post a summary.
