To all, I need to do a somewhat efficient backup over DECnet phase IV. There was some stuff about it in the DECUS Pageswapper a (long) while ago, but it was only to create a saveset; restoring could not be done and it is highly inefficient. I know the DECUS tapes have some utility that is supposed to do this but I have no access to any (and no money to get them). So..... Does anybody have a backup utility that works over DECnet that they are willing to send or any (I beg) other suggestions/comments on the subject? I have written a DECnet object that 'pipes' an incoming BACKUP saveset onto tape; I've also documented restoring from a tape saveset mounted on a remote tape drive. I distributed previous versions of my utility to the net about a year ago; we use the current version for all our weekly /IMAGE backups, and also for our automated incrementals (~25 RA81s/Eagles onto <2 tapes each night, from systems on our Ethernet all over campus). If there's enough demand, I'll post what we use. You'll probably want to customize the .COM files we use. -------
