TAKE THE LETTERS OF OUR FAVORITE COMPUTER COMPANY THEN ADD THE PAST TENSE OF THAT POPULAR ANGLO-SAXONISM THAT STARTS WITH F. THAT'S HOW I FEEL AFTER SPENDING AN ENTIRE DAY INSTALLING VMS 4.6 AND ALL THE UTILITIES ONLY TO BE TOLD BY A MEMBER OF THE NETWORK STAFF AT THE CSC THAT DECNET V4.4 WON'T WORK WITH A VMS 4.6 SYSTEM. AM I BLIND? DOES IT SAY THAT ANYWHERE IN THE INSTALLATION MANUAL? DECNET IS USED EVERYDAY AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR V4.6. SO I'M STUCK GOING BACK TO VMS4.5 FOR NOW AND TRYING TO CALL THE LOCAL SALES OFFICE TO SEE IF I CAN BORROW A DECNET 4.6 TK-50. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE? GRRRRRRRR! -Ric "SUN is looking brighter every day" Steinberger. -------

As the release notes stated, we had to reinstall both the DECnet and LAVC keys. For the DECnet key, we used the one we got with VMS V4.4. I believe that this is the same key which shipped with VMS V4.0; the product kit name is NETRTG040. We also have MicroVMS V4.6, but have not yet installed it (so many things to install, so little time... :-). We did get a new DECnet V4.6 kit for MicroVMS since for MicroVMS this kit contains more than just the enabling key. So, if you are installing VMS, use your existing DECnet key to enable routing. If you are installing MicroVMS, you should have gotten a new MicroVMS DECnet kit (if not, see your local office). To the best of my knowledge, that's the story. = Frank J. There is a flash notice to that effect on DSIN - I'm damn glad I didn't put 4.6 on as soon as I got it. As far as Sun looking better every day, their last OS upgrade was a fiasco too. I find it makes life easier to let someone else be the first guy on the block to install the upgrade and find all the bugs.
