[net.dcom] cheap answer modems?

re: 1200 baud, 212 type, answer only modems; what seems to be the best buy
these days.  i have a friend that wants to buy several.  thanx in advance,

With more and more sites these days considering conversion to 2400baud
answer modems, you ought to be able to get a good deal in used modems.
For example, at Cornell we are considering replacing our VADIC 3467s
(Bell103/Bell212/Vadic34xx protocols; answer only) with Bell103/
Bell212/CCITv.22bis modems.  As a result, we'll probably be trying to
find a home for 30 or 40 rack mounted 3467s, at a reasonable price.
I suspect other large computer centers are in a similar situation.

I would suggest you wait a month or few, then contact one of the big
used datacom vendors like Leaseametric.

I still see a strong market for 212-compatible originate modems, but I
bet the bottom is about to drop out of the 212 answer modem market.
