re: 1200 baud, 212 type, answer only modems; what seems to be the best buy these days. i have a friend that wants to buy several. thanx in advance, ernie harkins

With more and more sites these days considering conversion to 2400baud answer modems, you ought to be able to get a good deal in used modems. For example, at Cornell we are considering replacing our VADIC 3467s (Bell103/Bell212/Vadic34xx protocols; answer only) with Bell103/ Bell212/CCITv.22bis modems. As a result, we'll probably be trying to find a home for 30 or 40 rack mounted 3467s, at a reasonable price. I suspect other large computer centers are in a similar situation. I would suggest you wait a month or few, then contact one of the big used datacom vendors like Leaseametric. I still see a strong market for 212-compatible originate modems, but I bet the bottom is about to drop out of the 212 answer modem market.
