SUBJECT : Creating a common system disk with the V4.6 upgrade procedure ? ======= Fellow netlanders, I have a question which is related to the V4.4,V4.5 ---> V4.6 upgrade procedure. I.e : Does the V4.4,V4.5 to V4.6 upgrade (and I mean upgrade) procedure still support the creation of a common disk for a VAX cluster ? ( I pray to God it does ). The V4.6 release notes never mention this at least I could not find it. For instance if you compare page 1-13 of the V4.4 release notes with page 1-15 of the V4.6 release notes (especially the part 'upgrade phase 1A for the VAX 11/750). In the V4.4 release notes one states in black letters 'if the system includes CI750 ,the upgrade procedure provides the option of creating a common disk for a VAX cluster'. This sentence is no longer present in the V4.6 release notes (upgrade phase 1A for the VAX 11/750). I need this option however because I am going to build an LAVC cluster around my 750 and until now my system disk is NOT a common system disk. This leads to my second question : since I do not have a CI750 neither in what way or respect must I tell the upgrade procedure that I want a common system disk for a VAX cluster ? I fear that if it does not find a CI750 it might go on without asking me if I want this new diskstructure (of course as we all know LAVC also needs a common system disk). I especially waited until V4.6 inorder to configure LAVC because versions 4.5C contained a BUG which could corrupt the INDEX file on any disk in an LAVC cluster. Besides that V4.5C provided another serious DRAWBACK because it was an installation FROM SCRATCH and not an upgrade. Is there a basic functional difference then between the V4.4 and the V4.6 upgrade procedure ? Now comes the funny part : I posted the problem to my local TSC using DSIN.I just got three lines back , saying ... must install V4.6 from scratch ... !!! I REALLY DON'T BELIEVE THIS ! Since I especially waited inorder to be able to perform an UPGRADE I am back now were I started. Can anybody help me (get me out of my nightmares) ? Is what my TSC says thrue ? If so , is it possible to convert a normal system disk into a common system disk DOING IT ONESELF using commands such as 'set file/enter' inorder to create the necessary backward pointers etc. Has anybody else had the same problem ? Will summarize answers given to me to the net... Thanks Marc Elsen IMEC V.Z.W.
