I have a few problems with the latest version of finger and I was wondering if anyone could help or at least point me in the right direction. 1) I had to comment out line 3046 in finger.for because the compiler complained that sys$open and sys$connect were already defined (probably in one of the includes). 2) jnet_finger does not work. If I SEND @UBVMSC FINGER GERLAND it responds with a display of every user logged on 3 or 4 times and then at the end gives me the information for GERLAND. It also does not display the NODE name in its response. Try it and you'll see what I mean. 3) Any idea if anyone has the tcp stuff working in finger? Jim Gerland <gerland@ubvms.cc.buffalo.edu> wrote about troubles with the new Finger, particularly with the jnet_finger part. I'm afraid I have nothing helpful to add, except that I've seen exactly the same problems, and have the same questions. My jnet_finger does even stranger things - sometimes it lists subprocesses or batch jobs, even though the default is only for interactive user processes. But the 3 or 4 (or more!) listings of each process (sometimes with differences in, e.g., the terminal device listed) is quite consistent. I hope someone can shed some light on this, and that Jim will forward any response he gets to the list. Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gregory H.
