[comp.os.vms] bug in VMS 4.2 STABACKIT.COM procedure

Help needed!

I am (against my will) the system manager of a VAX 11/730 running VMS 4.2.
This computer was donated to our school and it came with very little
documentation and no training for me. I am preparing to upgrade to
4.4 (I have documentation for the upgrade) but first I must build
a standalone backup kit on TU58 cartridges. I run SYS$UPDATE:STABACKIT.COM
and after running for over 2 hours and making it through almost 2 cartridges,
the procedure generates the following error message:

%COPY-F-OPENOUT, error opening STA$TARGET: as output
-RMS-F-FULL, device full (insufficient space for allocation)

It then prompts for the console cartridge then almost immediately
bombs out, saying "An error or abort has occurred".

Someone mentioned to me that he thinks there was a bug in STABACKIT
involving TU58's and an incorrect block size. Does anyone have any
experience with this problem? If so, I would appreciate some further
information.

If possible, please respond directly via e-mail to:

Or you may call me collect between 7am-4pm at (916)895-4420.

Thanks for the help!
