[net.dcom] Auto-dialing with a Racal-Vadic VA3451

pritch@osu-eddie.UUCP (Norman Pritchett) (02/28/85)

I've recently been checking out the modems at our site to see what actually
works and what doesn't. There is a Racal-Vadic VA3451 with a label on it
that indicates that it has autodial capability but no documentation to
describe how that feature works. From the records I could find at our
establishment this modem originally did not have auto-dial capability but it
was added later when the unit went to the factory for other repairs.
Looking at the insides it does appear that a major unit was added so I'm
convinced I really have the feature. I just don't know how to access it.
If anybody has any info would you be kind enough to mail it to me?

Vadic was giving out free autodial upgrades whenever you brought a modem
in for any service. They have two modes of autodial. One is you type
^E and it says "Hello, I'm Ready" and then you type D and the number (I think),
and the other you type "^A" then it says B and you type "^Bnumber^C" and it
comes back and says A if it works and B if it doesn't. Nothing is echoed.
