In trying to write a freespace program for disk drives, I find myself plagued with the problem of deciding what drives are on the machine. I'd like the program to be generic enough to work on all machines, with all types of drives, and not be affected by whether or not the machine has an HSC - all of this in order to make calls to $GETDVI for space and other related information. For example, on a uVAX, there might be DUA0: and DUA1: while on a cluster, there might be HSC1$DUA1:, DJA0:, and DBA4:. Perhaps if I knew how SHOW DEVICE D determined the disks, I'd understand a way to do this - For now, I'm in the dark... Much thanks to those who reply.
