[comp.os.vms] Stand-Alone Backup Dies with INSVIRMEM

wrsturm%Ins.MRC.AdhocNet.CA@UNCAEDU.BITNET (W R Sturm) (11/13/87)

Recently, the last stand-alone backup we did died with and INSVIRMEM error.
It was running on a clustered 8650 and had worked the previous month. Stand-
alone backup was built using distribution STABACKIT.

I can probably bump up virtualpagecnt bump I am uncertain what else this
might affect.

Has anyone experienced similar problems and found the appropriate fix?

We had this problem too, on a very badly fragmented RP07. Basically the
problem seems to be that once a disk is fragmented badly enough
STABACKIT.EXE can't find enough memory to map it. Fiddling system params
doesn't work for anything with runs in standalone mode.

The only known method of clearing the problem is to backup the disk
online (with the disk write locked to prevent users changing its contents
whilst this is happening) then restore it, possibly standalone.
