cameron@runx.ips.oz (James Cameron) (11/27/87)
I archived a user's directory to magtape about a year ago, using BACKUP/VERIFY
/CRC, and now he wants it back. I used two separate tapes, (2400' 1/2"), but
now when I try to restore or look at them I get this;
$ BACKUP/LIST MTA0:/SAVE_SET
Listing of save set(s)
%BACKUP-F-LABELERR, error in tape label processing on MTA0:[000000].;
-SYSTEM-F-PARITY, parity error
$
Has anybody got any ideas as to what I can do to get at the data? Both tapes
give the same error. Field Service engineer suggests that the amplitude of
the signal has decreased (meaning the tapes have forgotten I gather).
Probably not alignment (It's a TU77) because the head was aligned just
before the archive and only recently too.
Please reply by MAIL if you can tell me what choices I have for restoring the
data. Thanks.
