[comp.os.vms] Gotcha in VMS 4.6 upgrade

carl@CITHEX.CALTECH.EDU.UUCP (11/24/87)

The VMS 4.6 upgrade doesn't handle VMSMAIL.DAT properly. It apparently
constructs a new VMSMAIL.DAT from SYSUAF.DAT, and therefore doesn't preserve
mail directories or forwarding.

I did 3 v4.6 upgrades and didn't have this problem with any of them.

I don't know exactly what happened in Carl's case, but we certainly had no such
problems here when we upgraded from VMS 4.5 to 4.6. Our mail directories and
forwarding was left intact. Perhaps the upgrade was from an earlier version
than 4.5?
