SMG is aimed at a different use then both FMS and TDMS. I've used TDMS and SMG both, and find that both are ok for their indended use. TDMS allows you to have "forms" drawn up on the screen and then recieve data from fields on those forms to your program. It ends up looking like an IBM 3270 type terminal with field validation. SMG just gives you a terminal indenpendent way of controlling different things as well has haveing different "windows" on the screen. You could use SMG to do almost all of TDMS's screen handling, though I'm not sure that dec really did that. Also, TDMS costs (Don't forget when looking that you must also buy CDD with TDMS) and SMG is free. bruce
