[comp.os.vms] How can I measure printing speed

cameron@runx.ips.oz (James Cameron) (12/31/87)

I have a need to measure the printing speed of the printers based on
VAX/VMS Accounting records, but the only data available is;

	GETS from source (file),
	QIOS to printer,
	PAGES printed.

GETS are not useful, because they are likely to be record GETS rather than
block GETS, and the number of bytes in each record varies.

PAGES is also not useful, since various print jobs will have different data
densities (ratio of printed data to blank space caused by form feed).

QIOS seems to be the best bet, but my printer queues have been set up
/RECORD_BLOCKING, and I don't know what size the symbiont uses for its QIOs.
(The manual says nothing useful - see $SNDJBC - SJC$_RECORD_BLOCKING)

Can anyone tell me what the QIO size will be? Will it be the device buffer
size, SYSGEN parameter MAXBUF, or something strange?

Please reply by mail, if there is sufficient interest I will post summary.
