We have a problem with DECnet-DOS. Using SETHOST with LAT, many sessions are broken down. Error message saying: LAT connection broken, remote host not responding, retransmit limit reached. We use Olivetti's M24 with 3COM ethernetcontroller (3c501) , version 1.2 of DECnet-DOS. IBM pc's however are going wrong too. The host computer is a VAX 8700 with a DEBNA ethernetcontroller. Operating system version 4.5. Version 4.6 was giving the same problem. The etdriver has been patched by DIGITAL until version X-15F1-2. We are running LAT plus V1.1. Applications suffering of this error are; mail, editor, sometimes even DIR and PURGE, INGRES and even more. The points were it is going wrong seem to be arbitrary but in INGRES there are some favoured points. Sessions are broken down there approximatily 19 times of 20 attemps. Of course we did a lot of experiments. There's a LANbridge 100 between the pc's and the VAX. We placed the Olivetti's to the same side of the bridge as the VAX and the problem didn't occur. Placing IBM's there, didn't make any difference, their sessions were still broken. The VAX 8700 is operating in a cluster. To that cluster belongs also a VAX 750 with a DEUNA ethernetcontroller. Logging in to the 750, running the same applications and the problem did NOT occur! We have a VAXmate too. The VAXmate hasn't any trouble at all. Any suggestions, every help is welcome. Thanks in advance. I will summarize responses back to the net. Martin van der Walle BITNET ADDRESS IWAR@HTIKUB5.BITNET INTERNET ADDRESS IWAR%HTIKUB5.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU
