[comp.os.vms] Looking for VMS archivers

BEB@UNO.BITNET (Bruce Bettis) (01/07/88)

<Mailers are mudders. This line is mudder fodder, brudder.>

We need a reliable archiving system to supplement VMSbackup. Features
we need are:

Runnable interactively as opposed to standalone, (almost never happens here)
smart enough to know which files are to be kept permanently, which can be
purged after a time, which are to be ignored, with some smarts about
compressing archive tapes containing expired files, won't break with new
versions of VMS, or with solid support. Low priced or PD would be nice!

If you know of such an animal, are using something similar now, we would
appreciate hearing from you. I seem to recall this was discussed a long
while back (before I cared about archivers :() so if you deem this a
non-networthy topic please reply directly to me and I can post a summary.
Thanks!
