[comp.os.vms] VMS V4.6

LES@vaxi.UWO.CDN (01/12/88)

Recently we installed (not upgraded to) VAX/VMS V4.6 on our MicroVAXII.
All seemed well EXCEPT that whenever we entered a DCL command which caused
output to be generated (e.g. SHOW SYS, SHOW USER, DIR, etc.) AND typed a
control character such as CTRL/C, CTRL/Y, CTRL/O, THE TERMINAL LINE HUNG
UP. Examining the UCB for the hung terminal from another port would show
(using SDA) a rapidly increasing error count on the terminal and the TIMOUT
bit in the device status word was being set (indicating a device timeout).

We use modem control on all of our lines since we go through a Gandalf PACX
switch. Dropping the connection and re-establishing it would clear the
problem until the next control character was typed while output was occuring.
Note that when the control character was typed, NOTHING, not even echo of the
control character would be received.

 The MicroVAXII uses DHV11's.

Since the problem seemed related to the terminal driver, I replaced TTDRIVER
and YFDRIVER with the VAX/VMS V4.4 version. Doing so fixed the problem!

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or does anyone have a solution.
Is this related to the DHU11 problem fixed with VMS 4.7?

Yes, this problem with the DHV11s in VMS V4.6 is/was a known problem.
Your workaround was the correct fix. This is claimed to be fixed in
VMS V4.7 (hearsay only, we haven't yet received our V4.7 kits).
VMS V4.7 is shipping now; some sites have received it.
