We just installed a DEPCA-BA on a Zenith Z-248 PC for use with VMS Services for MS-DOS over Ethernet. The DEPCA-BA is the one without the DEC mouse and LK250 keyboard. We intended to use a MicroSoft mouse instead. Everything kinda works EXCEPT... Sometimes (maybe 6 out of 10 tries), just after WINdows has been invoked via AUTOEXEC.BAT, at the point when the screen changes to the light background, THE NETWORK DIES. After some fooling around with jumpers and a few other things, I decided to try the DEC mouse off of our VAXmate and used SETUP to reconfigure. Now everything seems to work 10 out of 10. Although DEC indicates that the MS mouse driver is unsupported, should it not work properly with an MS mouse AND what was originally MS-Windows (albiet modified by DEC)??? Anyone else had the problem or knows a cure? (Should this message going to another interest group? Please respond with the address if so.
