A recent question apologized for not being of the deep-lore category, and invited private responses rather than clutter the info-vax air. I, for one, would welcome general answers to such "simple" questions (this one was an ACL-related question). All of us haven't explored all of VAX/VMS-land (yet). There'll always be something new which will save us hours of wheel (or manual-page) spinning, or will suggest an alternate (better) way of doing something we're already doing. This list has a large enough, diverse enough, readership that any question probably exists in multiple minds, and any answer will help more than one person.

But a much more efficient way would be to mail the answer (or what you think it is) to the person in question, and then, after a week or so, that person summarizing the replies to the net, no?
