[net.dcom] International Packet Switching - Help Wanted

jackson@ttidcb.UUCP (Dick Jackson) (06/04/85)

We are considering the use of international packet switching. Apparently
most civilized countries have at least one packet switched network, and
they are mostly interconnected (I think) by IRCs. Supposedly you can
call in to your local access point in, say, Australia just as you would
with Telenet or Tymnet, then ask for any other PSN . You get connected
to, say, France and log on again with them (I am assuming you have
established accounts with these organizations). Then you ask for your end
point address and - bingo! half way around the world.

Does anyone have any direct experience with this? Is it as straightforward
as I have described? Any catches?

We have not found it easy to get tariff information on non-US PSNs -
can anyone recommend a source?
