The Software Tools package provides an alternate mailer which can either entirely replace VAX mail, or act as an adjuct to it. It provides store/forward, teleconferencing, aliases, multinetwork access, cc, bcc, etc. fields, very flexible editing, etc. If you're able to avoid using VAX mail, it's worth a look. If using VAX mail as your interface, PMDF is better supported. The Tools package will be on the DECUS L&T tape (due out this week). There is much to recommend it generally. BTW, Software Tools mail (even with the unique interface) communicates very nicely with normal VAX mail on other DECnet nodes. It incorporates a well defined notion of user agent to allow very flexible handling of mail. The tools package also has something called TCS (Text Control System), which was once described as "about 90% of SCCS". It's public domain and works reasonably well at handling source code control problems of up to modest size. If you're handling a project with hundreds of programmers, you need a more powerful tool based on a DBMS. While there are various of these around, I don't know of any that are public domain. Does anyone else? Glenn Everhart Everhart%Arisia.decnet@ge-crd.arpa
