[comp.os.vms] A couple of questions

DSTEVENS@VAXC.STEVENS-TECH.EDU (David L. Stevens) (03/03/88)

 Greetings Programs,

Here are a couple of questions for all you netlanders.

 1) Rumors of VMS v5.0 say that we will be able to mix clusters of CI based
clusters, and LAVc clusters. My question is how will the performance
of such a cluster mix be. Will it be worth doing??? Reason I'm asking
is that we want to get a network server machine for here, and want it
to be a 3600, and LAVc it into the CI cluster we have when 5.0 comes
out. If the mixed clusters aren't going to work, we will have to go
for a BI machine (most likely a 8250 due to price). Speculation, or
any advice would be greatly apreciated.

 2) On a less theoretical tangent. Has any one found a performance limit on
the number of system roots that can exist on an RA82 in a CI cluster.
Would it be worth it for us to split the system disk up into multiple
disks ? We already have it set up so that the primary paging and
swapping files are located on a different disk. Also does anyone have
any thoughts on the advantages of using volume shadowing (for the
	system disk only).

 Thanx

reposting, because I never saw the message make it back to me, nor
	did I get any answeres.
