[comp.os.vms] NEWS for VMS over DECNET without nntp

cjs@oberlin.UUCP (chris seline) (03/23/88)

I've received several requests for more information on NEWS(DECNET/VMS).

I will post a more detailed description in April. The system will be
available in Mid-April. (There are several sites running V0.99 now.)

                     NEWS(DECNET/VMS)

 o Works on VAX/VMS

o Is less than 100 blocks long.

o Requires that you be on a DECNET with some other node that
receives USENET (like a Ultrix node, but a BSD or SUN with DECNET
    will also work well).

 o Requires no privileges.

o Requires no periodic maintenance -- just compile and go.

o Does NOT require the unix system install or use NNTP.
o This minimizes the administrative overhead on the Unix system.

o In fact, there is no administrative overhead on the, they do NOT
have to do anything for you to be able to read news.

o Is actively supported -- including phone support.
