Wojtek Grochowski (wojciech@arc.cdn%ran.ubc.ca) writes that he is con- siderind Emulex terminal servers because they are less expensive than DS200's. Hmmmm!....If a 16 line Emulex server is $7200 and an 8 line DS200 is $3100, I fail to see the savings. We (on GSA contract) are paying about that for DS200's and about $200 for Cabletron transceivers. Oh yes, the license is $50. My experience is that DEC will probably make a better deal than GSA to an educational institution; at least they do to our local universities. DEC will do absolutely everything they can to shoot Emulex in the foot. If Emulex really has reverse engineered LAT, it probably won't work for long when the Maynard Mavens get wind of it. Stick with DEC even if it's low tech. Mike West, DP Manager USAF Avionics Laboratory Wright Patterson AFB, OH 45433 west%etd1.decnet@afwal-aaa.arpa ------
