[comp.os.vms] SDL status

JOE@FHCRCVAX.BITNET (Joe Meadows) (04/05/88)

Hi, I thought I'd bring anyone who cared to know up to date on the
SDL project. I have written a document describing the format of
the routine and data structures required to write your own SDL module.
I have updated my 'C' module to produce prettier results, and added
function prototyping (which is almost useless, since there are many
routines that are declared improperly).

Oh sorry, for newcomers to this saga, I should describe a little
bit about what I am talking.. SDL is a DEC product which can generate
'include' files for different languages. For example the $JPIDEF macro
is created this way. Apparently DEC licenses SDL for about $25,000. It
seems like it is probably a good tool to have, esp. if you have data
structures that need to be shared by many different languages. Anyway,
DEC includes files that describe everything that can be found in the
STARLET macro library. So, if there are modules in STARLET that you'd
like to see in some other langage than Macro, you should check out
my code and document.

Currently there is only a C module written, but if anyone wants
to work on other languages PLEASE contact me. I would love to get several
language modules thrown together and posted to DECUS (note that you can
create your own module and are NOT obligated to send it back to me for
inclusion, I just suspect anyone that writes one will probably do so).

If you would like the current source and docs, please contact me!

  Cheers,
