Hello,
We have just ordered PMDF for our VAX 780 and 8200. We also want to make
a connection to the UNIX machines on our campus using asynchronous lines.
I have already a lot of information concerning this problem, but I have
also a lot of questions. Please comment as much as possible on the
following 4 solutions I have in mind.
1) I get from someone one the net a name or address of the person where I can
obtain MMDF (It's not standing on the user-distribution tapes of our Unix
machines) and connect PMDF and MMDF.
2) We order DECShell and use the UUCP utility that comes with it to talk
UUCP with the UNIX machines. In the SPD's they say this utility only
can talk to other DEC-machines with UUCP, so this probably will not work.
Maybe the program on the Decus Spring 87 tape from Carosso that would merge
UUCP and VMS-mail solves this problem.
3)We order DECShell and get from the authors of PMDF the channels for
connecting it to PMDF. The question stays wether the Dec UUCp-utility can
talk to UUCP on another non-DEC computer.
4) We buy Wollongon TCP/IP for our VAX. Can it be used via asynchronous lines ?
Can it be merged in VMS-mail or PMDF ?

N.B. Is there someone on the Earn-side of the net (in Europe) who has
experience with PMDF and MMDF ?
