[comp.os.vms] Anonymous FTP of mail format files

consult32%zeus.dnet@FERGVAX.UNL.EDU (aka fritz@{fergvax | unocss}.unl.edu...) (04/06/88)

Hello all,

Recently I posted that I had put the replies I received concerning the
format of VMS mail (*.MAI) files up for anonymous ftp on unocss.unl.edu
(129.93.1.11). Someone sent me mail saying that they had a problem
getting a DIRECTORY of the anonymous account, presumably from their VMS
machine.

I'm assuming this works from Unix machines, because I did it with no
problems from another Unix machine here. The only way I could get a DIRECTORY
from a VMS machine was to type DIRECTORY "*". This seems to work fine. Sorry
for any trouble this caused, and I'll try to get it fixed...

Wow; if it was worth putting up for anonymous FTP, there must've been some
useful information. I've been looking for VMS Mail format details for a
long time, but all I'm ever hearing back is "look at the fiche" or "use
ANALYZE/RMS". Well, I have no access to fiche, and ANA/RMS doesn't tell
me much IN DETAIL, so I'm "still looking" for the information.

This latest offer of "anonymous FTP" sounds quite promising, except that
I can't perform any such thing from here!

Was wondering if some kind soul might consider ftp-ing the stuff themselves,
and e-mailing it to me? ONE person would be sufficient, and I'd want to
pre-arrange it through E-mail before you start sending me files, but I'd
really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
