I have seen a lot of messages recently asking about UUCP and NEWS for VMS. Many people have been wanting to get something going and some people have been offering to do the work. Well, the work has been going for a while. The VMSNET Working Group of the DECUS VAX SIG has been working UUCP for VMS and tying in the NETNEWS program from Australia. The UUCP port is based on the work done at the GNU project at the Free Software Foundation and is not based on AT&T's code (therefore is not infringing on AT&T's rights to their code). VMSNET is supposed to be in Alpha Test right now. I haven't heard anything on how the test is going, but there will one session on it at the Spring DECUS Symposium in Cincinatti. The working group is also hoping to get the software on the Spring 1988 VAX SIG Tape. As more information becomes available, it will be posted to INFO_VAX. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | M.
