I gather that the most likely source of incompatibility with the new 2400 baud modems is the initial handshake, since the V.22bis handshake is different from that used for Bell 212 or 103, and vendors have used the 212 handshake with otherwise V.22bis compliant modems. So, first, did I get it right? Second, who is handshaking how? And finally, would some crock be possible, e.g. an answer tone that warbled between the 212 and V.22bis answer tones, which would make a modem both V.22bis compatible and 212 compatible?
