There's been some discussion on preventing VMSINSTAL from performing a "forced" reboot after an update. Here is another easy way someone here has discovered to prevent VMSINSTAL from rebooting: Run VMSINSTAL from a spawned job (subprocess). That will prevent SHUTDOWN from executing should VMSINSTAL invoke it. In fact, SHUTDOWN will issue a nice message about "SHUTDOWN cannot be run from a subprocess" and then abort. Using this method worked fine for installing the recent security update, allowing the reboot to occur at a more convenient time. C. A.
