Optoisolators and great - they really do isolate, and they are inexpensive. However, as smb@ulysses pointed out, they really do get fried easily. (Tech. note - take a look at the low reverse voltages allowed on either side of the isolator.) The only real problem is the *labor* cost of running around replacing them even if they are socketed. Also note that you usually can't just plug them into an existing circuit. --henry schaffer
