[comp.os.vms] OK, what is DSIN

IMHW400@INDYVAX.BITNET (05/09/88)

Well, my thoughtlessness is showing. I thought that everybody knew what
DSIN is, but that is not a reasonable assumption at all. I've had five
queries (so far....) To clear up the confusion that I've spread, I'm
forwarding you all a copy of my response to the first query that I received.
My apologies to those who didn't understand my reference, especially to:

o non- U.S. members of the mailgroup: Digital may do things differently
        in your country;

o members who do not use Digital's Basic or DECsupport Service for
        Software: you'd have little chance of understanding my cryptic
        reference.

The explanation:

++++++++++++++++

Please pardon my jargon. DSIN is an acronym for Digital Software Information
Network. It is a service provided by Digital Equipment Corporation for
their North American software maintenance customers. (There may be a
corresponding service in Europe; if not, there should be!) DSIN includes
online SPR submission, retrieval from a database of symptoms and solutions,
and similar services. It is run by the Customer Support Center in Colorado
Springs, CO, USA.

DSIN is available on the X.25 Tymnet network by logging in to Tymnet as user
DSIN. You must have a registered access number to use the service. Ask
your Digital sales representative about gaining access to DSIN or a
corresponding service for Europe.
