I am using the TPU editor on a microVax II running VMS 4.5. Supposedly, one is able to spawn to another process using the "SPAWN" command. However, when I do this I receive a "subprocess could not be created" msg. I've tried setting the subprocess quota up from 2 to 4, but that did not work. Any ideas? Is the correct parameter to change the number of allowable detached processes? How does a "detached" process differ from a "sub" process? Could it be: One SPAWNs into a subprocess, but QUEUEs a detached process (eg batch file). If indeed this is the correct parameter to switch, how do I get at it? I've hacked all over and can't seem to find a way to change it. Any comments will be most appreciated. Thanks. Jeff Livingstone Chemistry Dept. (Record Lab) University of Wisconsin - Madison P.S. - I guess that should have read "Micro VMS".

Jeff (in response to SPAWNing from TPU), I don't know if this will help you out or not but we had a similiar problem. What we discovered was that you could SPAWN out in our own directory (SYS$LOGIN) but not anywhere else (without privelage). Apparently, there is some temporary file creation activity going on in the background... but I haven't followed up on it. Maybe by changing the protection in the directory you want to SPAWN from..??
