I'm looking at ATT PUB 61310 on Digital Public Switched Network Services
(translation: 56 Kb "dialups") and am confused by the use of wire pairs.
On page 6 they indicate that pins 4/5 are voice tip/ring, 3/6 are mode
control, and 1/2 transmit and 7/8 receive. I always thought the pairing
was 4/5, 3/6, 2/7, and 1/8. This implys that the pairing is lost on the
transmit and receive connections, presumably the most sensitive to
crosstalk. Also, on page 11 they say that transmit and receive should
be assigned to pairs. Does this mean that 1/2 and 7/8 are really pairs,
not 1/8 and 2/7?
Could someone enlighten me?
