The effort to create a coherent set of cultural interest groups has brought up two main points: (1) It would be good if everyone knew what the regional groups were, so all this nonsense of having them be random subgroups of net.nlang could be fixed (2) Many people oppose creating the groups without first having an interest expressed in them. Perhaps at this time it would be appropriate to create a list of "desirable" or "uniform" subgroup names (i.e., the list proposed) without creating the groups themselves. Then, whenever someone wanted a new cultural group created, the usual process would be followed except that they would be advised to use one of the names from the uniform list of proposed cultural subgroup names. The next edition of the news documents (being worked on now) could include this list for reference. -- "We've taken out all the bugs in the software and installed new and improved bugs."
