[comp.os.vms] problem with Ven-Tel modems

INFOVAX%BIOMED@VENUS.YCC.YALE.EDU (05/24/88)

I have a pair of Ven-Tel EC2400-33 modems which I am using for terminal
(VT220) to host (VaxStation 2000) communications. These modems support
MNP Level 5 protocols providing error correction and data compression.
This would be wonderful except that after a variable (1 to 200 minutes)
delay after establishing the connection, the originating modem goes
beserk and sends random characters to the terminal continuously until I
drop the connection. To their credit, Ven-Tel have spent much time and
effort trying to solve the problem but without success.
I have two questions:-

1) Is there anyone out there with two of these modems communicating
in the "2400/REL" mode either having, or NOT having, this problem ?

2) Is there anyone else using other modems which support MNP level 5 who
recognizes this problem ?

I would VERY much like to hear from anyone in either category.
