CURLEY@WHARTON.UPENN.EDU ("Curley, Robert F.") (05/26/88)

The following are offered to help the recent discussion about commercialism
in DECUS Local User Groups:

U.S. Chapter Commercialism Policy
(approved March 1981)

"The DECUS U.S. Executive Board (the Board of Directors as of July 1,
1984) Policy is to attempt to minimize commercialism in all DECUS
activities while maintaining DECUS services at a high level to all
members. Each DECUS functional area (unit as of July 1, 1984) has a
specific implementation of this policy which governs activities within
that area. The elected user representative for each functional area is
responsible for stating, implementing and enforcing elements of the
policy."

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Policy on Commercialism for LUGs

"This policy is intended to interpret the U.S. Chapter policy on
commercialism as it applies to Local User Groups. It is recognized
that each LUG is differently organized and oriented, yet all share the
common goals spelled out in the DECUS Bylaws, and thus, have an
interest in maintaining the professinal nature of the society.

"Meetings:
- product presentation at LUG meetings should be of a technical nature.
This precludes the discussion of product price or availability.
- Vendors of products or services may make presentations at LUG
meetings so long as they are technical presentations about their own
products and do not compare them to any other product. LUG leadership
should consider the sensitivities of their local Digital Counterparts
and their own membership before inviting outside vendors to participate
in LUG mettings.
- No sales literature may be distributed at LUG meetings.
- Announcements of LUG meetings should be made only through normal LUG
channels. Vendors may not make separate announcements of LUG meetings.
- Employment announcements or solicitations are strictly prohibited.

"Publications:
- all LUG newsletters and other publications must conform to the U.S.
Chapter Publications Policy.

"Miscellaneous:
- LUG membership lists are confidential. They may not be released to
anyone outside the LUG for any commercial purpose."
