[net.dcom] BISYNC over HF/VHF link

plessey@runx.OZ (Plessey Pacific Defense Ltd) (09/02/85)

We wish to implement bisync or a similarly primitive protocol over an HF/VHF
radio link. Has anyone done this? (of course, but have YOU done this?). We
are not certain BISYNC is the best protocol for the job, but our requirments
are fairly simple (point to point lines, no real networking involved) and we
know of few competing protocols. Comments, Advice and sources (preferably
Pascal, but we're not all that picky) will be very welcome.

The last people that tried to set up a private commercial network
(voice only) were QANTAS - and OTC sued them! If this is a commercial
proposition, expect opposition from our friendly telephone monopoly.

Also, us radio amateurs (please, not "hams") have been doing things
like this for years - RTTY, AMTOR and now packet. But of course,
this is merely "experiments of a technical nature where recourse to
the local telephone system is not justified" (or something like that!).
