We are about to purchase a number of 1200 baud "inexpensive" modems.
I wanted to ask if anyone has any preferences or dislikes about particular
products. We are considering:
+ US ROBOTICS - PASSWORD,
+ UDS - 212 LP,
+ ANCHOR AUTOMATION - VOLKSMODEM,
+ RIXON - R212A/IM.
I certainly will appreciate any information helping us make the
right choice.

Research Triangle Park, NC We have many Volksmodems. They seem to work fairly well if you don't try doing anything fancy and don't require complete capability. The one that we have hooked up to our Sun and use for dial-in/dial-out doesn't not work very well for this purpose. They seem to be fixing some of the problems. RIXON R212A ---
I own one of these personally as well as use it here in our lab.
It is a great modem for personal use. It remembers phone numbers
and is very friendly. It also has a hayes emulation mode for
autodialing with uucp and some such.
USRobotics -- Courier 2400
We also use this one. We really like it. It also is hayes compatable
and cheap if you buy from certain suppliers.
