Does anyone know if the current version of Wollongong WIN/VX TCP/IP software support the Domain name system in any way - either by resolver or also by offering a Domain name server database ? Also does anyone know if they, i.e. Wollongong, are reachable by E-mail ? Surface mail from Europe takes some time, and phone calls have to be made at nights ! We run the release 2.3 software and have some trouble with FTP get and dir from CMU-TEK TCP/IP to the WIN/VX system - it doesn't work. Thanks for any answer Olav

Yes, WIN/TCP v3.0 and v3.1 use the domain system - both the resolver and nameserver work. We have v3.1 and it works ok with the CMU stuff - not great, but it works. I think it's due to some problems in v6.2 of the CMU code. Mike Iglesias University of California, Irvine

Does anyone know if the current version of Wollongong WIN/VX TCP/IP software support the Domain name system in any way - either by resolver or also by offering a Domain name server database ? We're not running the Wollongong software, but we do have a copy of their documentation (WIN/TCP final release 3.0), and it indicates that they do support domain name service. Also does anyone know if they, i.e. Wollongong, are reachable by E-mail ? They're on the Internet as TWG.COM (also known as "TWG.ARPA"). Try "Postmaster@TWG.COM". Eric M. > > Does anyone know if the current version of Wollongong WIN/VX > TCP/IP software support the Domain name system in any way - > either by resolver or also by offering a Domain name server database ? > We run WIN TCP/IP with full domain name server. One system is the name server, another is a caching only node. There are a few problems mainly to do with our site specification (multiple domains under one root). Its' taken me a fair bit of time to get the system fully functional, but now that it is, its' ok. We are running V3.2 if TCP/IP. The system talks to other name servers on campus and we are using subnet masking and routing to allow for other domains. hope this helps, +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Malcolm Wade, ASCnet: malcolm@csdgwy.csd.unsw.oz | | VAX/VMS Systems Group, Infopsi: malcolm@csdgwy.unsw.edu.au | | University of New South Wales, FAX: 61 2 662 8665 | | Sydney, Australia Phone: 61 2 697 2835 | | | | Note: I'm only doing this to improve my typing !! | +----------------------------------------------------------------------+

Current release is 3.1 and is worlds better. We have >no problems FTPing to and from CMU-TEK systems. I must agree. We had horrible problems with 2.x. 3.1 works so much better. They seem to have gotten their act together and produced some top quality software. In fact, I have had more luck using Wollongong's version of FTP to the rest of the internet than I have with sun's in SUN-OS (3.4). Wollongong's newest release is 3.2, but it just came today, so I can't comment further on it. The original poster asked what Wollongong's e-mail address was. The correct address is "support@twg.com", if you are on the internet. I hope this helps. > R. Kevin Oberman Disclaimer: I only use Wollongong's products. My views are my own.
