I have a couple questions regarding network stuff. First off, I know all about how to do stuff on a node that has a direct access network. I.E. Set host, send mail, send bitnet mail etc. etc. What I would like to know is whether or not it is possible to do network stuff to and from a remote node which has access to other networked machines. DECnet: VAXA can talk via decnet to VAXB. VAXB knows where VAXC is, and knows VAXA. But, VAXA has no idea who VAXC is. How can I say SET HOST VAXB::VAXC from VAXA and get onto VAXC without having any access to VAXB other than the decnet default account? Is this possible? Jnet: VAXA is connected to VAXB via decnet. VAXB is on a network including BITNET access using Jnet and also can talk to VAXA via Jnet or decnet. VAXA can talk to VAXB by either decnet or Jnet, but is not on BITNET. Gateway mail can be sent from VAXA out to the world by sending it to vaxb::jnet%"user@node" which is fine, but then what is the return address? How can mail be returned back thru jnet to the original node VAXA? (Please, don't say put fake records in VMSMAIL, I won't listen because that's one of those privileged solutions and anything can be done with privs) There may be some others interested in this info, so if anyone has some real good answers, go ahead and post to the net. Thanks. I am almost certain the answer to both is "not possible" but it doesn't hurt to ask. -- Jeff Capehart Internet: jdc@beach.cis.ufl.edu University of Florida UUCP: ..!ihnp4!codas!uflorida!beach.cis.ufl.edu!jdc
