The ETDRIVER in VMS 4.* allocates a maximum of 26 buffers for use by all clients. If you're using TCP/IP (needs 16), LAT (needs 4), and DECnet (needs 8), then you run out of receive buffers. The number of receive buffers is supposed to be very large in VMS 5.0. I've heard rumors that DEC has a patch for the ETDRIVER under VMS 4.* to allocate more buffers. Has anyone had any luck getting it from them? If so, please send me info on who at DEC you contacted to get it. Thanks, Paul. *----------------------------------------------------------------------------* | Paul W. WIN/TCP v3.1 comes with the patch listing. If you have a copy of 3.1, you have the patch. If you don't, let me know and I'll send it to you. What version of VMS are you running? Mike Iglesias University of California, Irvine

I just got done this past week handling this with software support in colorado. I have a cluster of (2) 8350s & a 780. the 780 has a non-dec ethernet i/f the 8350s just got upgraded to debnas. run decnet and win/tcp. i noticed the problem when trying to get some decserver200s to request a download without powering down. network support team in co. said they developed this patch to make etdriver give back buffers it allocates for lavc permanently , it works. if you have s/w support you can also get it from them. my win/tcp update came after i got the patch.
