In VMS version 5.0 (out Real Soon Now) there is a qualifier on the RECALL command (RECALL/ERASE) that empties out the recall buffer. It was added as a feature in part to satisfy security minded sites who didn't want someone waltzing up to a terminal, recalling the buffer, and seeing copies of the password in DECnet paths, etc, etc etc. Tom Cole SAS Institute {Anywhere}|mcnc|rti|sas|cole Opinions? John, Not in this version, but version 5.0 will let you do RECAL/ERASE to erase the recal buffer. A while ago someone posted a program here which erased the recal buffer (it may have also been in one of the trade magazines) I thought I had it, but can't find it at present. Perhaps someone else from the net can send you a copy. Rich DeJordy Systems Programmer American Mathematical Society RAD@MATH.AMS.COM -------
