Are there any VMS V5.0 (beta) sites out there who would care to comment on the ease or difficulty in accomplishing such an upgrade? System manager perspective? User perspective? Performance numbers (io/cpu/memory usage, etc)? Is the change from VMS 4.X to V5.0 going to be as traumatic as the change from 3.X to 4.0 was? Will DEC be offerring (sp?) V5 upgrade seminars, and if so, will it be worth it for experienced system managers to attend? Yes, I know that V5 is not out in general release yet (at least not to my knowledge). I'd just like to be well-prepared when upgrade time rolls around. Thanx in advance for any pertinent information which can be provided. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Morris BITNET: TOM@UNCSPHVX UNC School of Public Health UUCP : ...!mcnc!ecsvax!tpmsph -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

> Is the change from VMS 4.X to V5.0 going to be as traumatic > as the change from 3.X to 4.0 was? There was a panel of V5 beta sites at the Spring '88 Symposium in Cincinatti, according to attendees the panelists stated that the upgrade to V5 FT2 (Field Test 2) was very smooth and the system worked very well. In general, it sounds very UNLIKE the V3.x->V4.0 mess. > Will DEC be offerring (sp?) V5 upgrade > seminars, and if so, will it be worth it for experienced system managers to > attend? Yes, DEC is offerring 3 seminars: Planning for V5, Technical Update Seminar and Internals Update Seminar. I plan to go to an on-site edition of the Internals Update myself. > Yes, I know that V5 is not out in general release yet (at least not to my > knowledge). I believe that at least 1 group has the binaries but no license PAKs yet. Oh yes, Digital has sent a letter out saying that due to the size of the kit (180 pounds), it may arrive in pieces. = Frank J.
